At the UofL Health – Trager Transplant Center, more patients leave our center every year with a renewed lease on life than any other program in the region. One of the leading providers of advanced organ disease and transplantation care in the country, we make it our mission to improve and save lives.
We are nationally recognized for performing Kentucky’s first adult heart, pancreas, heart-lung and liver transplant. Our transplant team also was responsible for the first minimally invasive kidney donation in Kentucky. Today we continue to be a robust program and pride ourselves on providing individualized patient-centered care.
Within our Advanced Organ Disease and Transplant Center you will find some of the top academic, clinical and research-based physicians and specialists in the nation. Our collaborative multidisciplinary teams include surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, infectious disease specialists, researchers, rehabilitation consultants, social workers, dietitians, psychiatrists, pharmacists and financial coordinators, who all bring a unique set of skills to the table.
We have one common goal: to help our patients and their families deal with both the challenges and new possibilities after a transplant.
Our researchers are continually analyzing innovative approaches to treating patients with the entire range of advanced organ disease to end-stage organ failure. In fact, our doctors help develop the national guidelines for the care of organ failure patients. And we offer cutting-edge clinical research trials to explore new treatments and procedures.
UofL Health –Trager Transplant Center has been named a Federally Designated Medicare Heart, Lung, Kidney, Liver and Pancreas Transplant Center; an elite group approved to perform all five solid organ transplants and is a member of numerous national transplant networks.
We collaborate with a network of cardiovascular specialists throughout Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Ohio. Additionally, we prioritize working closely with your own primary care doctor and cardiologist to chart the best diagnostic and treatment strategy for your long-term health, helping you receive exceptional and continuous care close to your home.
Through the UofL Health – Trager Transplant Center, UofL Physicians offers a full spectrum of organ transplants for adults.
Many people do not realize that for kidneys, a living donation is an option. Living kidney donation takes place when a living person donates one of their kidneys to someone in need of a transplant. This donor can be a friend, relative or anonymous donor. Learn More
