UofL Physicians – Pathology serves as a regional resource for the clinical laboratory services required for patient care, including biopsies that are used to diagnose cancer and other diseases. Pathology is responsible for making approximately 70 percent of patient diagnoses.
The pathology laboratory works to support key clinical services in the hospital and associated clinics, including the operating room, labor and delivery, the newborn nursery, the emergency room, bone marrow transplant service, cancer/blood disorder treatment specialties, the hemophilia clinic and the stroke service. Comprehensive services include point-of-care testing for oncology and for general medical patients.
Our pathologists provide services to UofL Health hospitals and medical centers, the Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Medical Examiner’s Office. We are developing new approaches to healthcare, research and education that will help us to become a nationally recognized center of excellence in basic and applied research, education and training, and clinical practice of pathology and laboratory medicine.
