Our Infectious Diseases team also support the Vaccine and International Travel Center, which provides efficient, personalized and comprehensive pre-travel medical services, including detailed information about the latest immunization requirements and recommendations for travel destinations.

General Infectious Diseases
Specialists assist with the management of various infectious diseases such as pneumonia, Influenza and other emerging respiratory pathogens, tick-borne diseases, and healthcare-associated infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms.
Bone and Joint Infections
Our team can manage patients with osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infections, and other device-related bone and joint infections in collaboration with UofL Physicians in orthopedic surgery, hand surgery, and podiatry.
UofL Physicians – Infectious Disease Associates currently manage 1,200 HIV/AIDS patients at the UofL and VA hospitals, as well as outpatient clinics. Physicians also assist with management of HIV infected individuals in the prison and jail system through the Kentucky TeleHealth Network.
Vaccine and International Travel Center
UofL Physicians – Infectious Disease Associates provides efficient, personalized and comprehensive pre- and post-travel vaccinations, along with other travel-related recommendations (e.g. chemoprophylaxis), as well as non-travel-related vaccination services. Infectious Disease experts with UofL Physicians have been awarded contracts from both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to study patients with respiratory tract infections. The contract with the NIH involves the utilization of point-of-care microbiological testing in the emergency department to target anti-bacterial therapy in patients with community-acquired pneumonia. The contract with the CDC is to evaluate the impact of early administration of anti-influenza therapy for patients hospitalized with lower-respiratory tract infections due to influenza. Specialists have also established an international database for the Community-Acquired Pneumonia Organization (CAPO), which includes over 7,000 patients from over 25 countries. The infectious diseases staff is building databases of patients with HIV and osteomyelitis, and is conducting multiple sponsored clinical trials.
Clinical and Translational Research Support Center
Our Infectious Diseases specialists have developed a clinical and translational research support center (CTRSC) to assist investigators from the University of Louisville and other national and international institutions with all aspects of clinical and translational research.
