With our highly skilled laparoscopic surgeons, we offer treatments such as implantation of gastric electrical stimulators and minimally invasive surgery of the esophagus and stomach.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic cares for patients affected with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. We have extensive experience with the medical management of complex inflammatory bowel disease cases. Patients may benefit from enhancements of their current therapy, or obtain access to the newest therapeutic agents through our clinical trials programs.

Liver Transplantation and Liver Disease Management

A major regional referral center for excellent patient care and research, our liver specialists are part of a multidisciplinary group that is internationally recognized for liver transplantation, evaluation and care of hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver failure.

Colon cancer screening/treatment of colorectal disease.

Our skilled physician endoscopists perform endoscopic and laboratory screening evaluations for colon cancer and work with the UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center’s multidisciplinary gastrointestinal cancer clinic to facilitate best care for patients with colon cancer. Along with our expert colorectal surgeons, we evaluate and refer appropriate candidates for electric stimulation to correct fecal incontinence, and we perform hemorrhoid banding.

Treatment of Pancreatic and Biliary Disorders

Our therapeutic endoscopists are highly skilled in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), fine needle aspiration of pancreatic cysts and tumors, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde pancreatography) including spyglass to directly visualize and treat bile duct disorders, perform biliary and pancreatic manometry for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, as well as manage all causes of acute and chronic pancreatitis.

Advanced Endoscopy

Therapeutically trained endoscopists perform endoscopic mucosal resections and treat Barrett’s esophagus with BARRX radiofrequency ablation. For patients with luminal cancers, self-expanding permanent or temporary stents can be placed to allow patients to eat normally as they undergo treatment for their cancer.

Nutrition Expertise

Our board certified nutrition physicians offer evaluation and consultation for patients who have difficulty with absorption/digestion of nutrients or who have complications after bariatric surgery or due to short gut syndrome, or in those requiring intravenous (parenteral) nutrition.
