What to expect when visiting your UofL Health provider and facility

UofL Health – Chestnut Street Outpatient Center

We know the last couple of months have been challenging for you and your family. With everything you are facing externally, it shouldn’t be difficult for you to seek health care.

At the height of the coronavirus pandemic in our state, we know many of you put off having your routine check-ups and decided to wait to have that annoying ailment looked at by a doctor.

“I want to encourage you to use this time to schedule your health visit,” Wade Mitzel, UofL Physicians COO, said. “Now that many of the directives from the Commonwealth of Kentucky have lifted we can help meet the needs of our patients. If you put off a check-up or maybe you are experiencing a new health concern you want to address with a doctor, please don’t put off seeking care.”

Mitzel shared that patients now have more options when seeking care.

“We’ve heard from our patients and some are ready for that one-on-one, in-person visit with their doctors, and others are excited about using telehealth for its convenience and ease of use,” Mitzel said.

What to expect

When visiting a UofL Physicians provider or UofL Health facility, visit UofLHealth.org to read the latest updates to the visitation policy.

For the near future, upon entering a UofL Health facility, you will need to be screened. At check-in you will be asked a series of health questions and will have your temperature checked. If you are not wearing a mask, one will be provided to you.

Also during pre-registration, patients are being asked about COVID-19 signs and symptoms. If you are making an appointment with your doctor, you may be asked screening questions at that time.

Healthy environment

A clean environment is a healthy one. At UofL Health we are taking a number of measures to safeguard our patients and staff.

At our physicians practices we have established social distancing protocols specific to the space. At the check-in desk, you may see floor markers directing where to stand if waiting, or you may also call from your car to let our practice know you have arrived. You will also find hand sanitizer easily accessible.

We are also continuing to screen our team members at all our practices and facilities. Handwashing continues to be a focus for our team members and providers.

Prevention tips

  • Wash your hands often.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Put distance between yourself and others.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue and/or inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the garbage and wash hands afterwards.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend wearing a mask in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. According to the CDC cloth face coverings slow the spread of the virus and can help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting the virus. They also say cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

Please contact your provider or UofL Health facility if you have questions about your upcoming appointment.
