Henk de Weerdt

VP for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer

Henk de Weerdt is vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer at UofL Physicians. 

Henk leads the organization’s Information Technology department, which provides IT strategy and support for UofL Physicians and its more than 160 outpatient clinics. The department’s array of services includes project management, clinical and revenue cycle optimization, systems integration, information security, provider and end user support, training and education, and infrastructure support.

Previously, Henk served as chief technology officer where he helped to developed technological roadmaps that enabled the department to be strategically responsive, driving IT operational maturity in standardization, continuous process improvement and KPIs. Henk established the computing and storage infrastructure for UofL Physicians’ Allscripts and GE Centricity systems; implemented various systems and applications for increased productivity and customer satisfaction and demonstrated a keen ability to align the strategic technological vision with cutting edge technologies and best practices.

Prior to joining UofL Physicians, Henk was the chief technology officer for the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. Henk spent the first 14 years of his professional life in various private sector IT roles progressing from application developer to senior manager. During this time he managed projects in Switzerland, United Kingdom and Brunei.

Henk is a certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer through the College of Healthcare Information Executives. Henk also serves as an active member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

Henk has built a reputation of being a strategically focused technology executive with an exemplary record of planning and delivering high-quality dependable IT systems and services aligned with long term business objectives. Henk received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
