Dr. Sowell was very condescending. He has horrible bedside manner. He rolled his eyes or looked off when talking to me. Didn't take into consideration my previous diagnosis but maybe he didn't have those notes in my records. May have built in biases. Lack's compassion & empathy.

I feel frustrated by my care routine, and that my provider doesn't listen to my concerns. I had additional concerns this time which must not have been important because no one addressed them directly? I'm re-trying a medication I've been on three times in the past. Is this the best approach? When he told me to go to ER as my next step I felt very disconnected from my doctor and who I thought was my next step during a migraine episode. So, although I thought I presented my concerns about my health, it will take another 3 months to see if anything changes again. I understand having residents & students, and I welcome that, but then he needs to at least read the information to know what's going on when he joins us. I was frustrated before my visit because I'm still having daily headaches. Then during a cyclical episode, no one was available for help for over a week via phone. Hence the ER reference. I appreciate the positive steps we have taken, and Dr Sowell generally seems to be a nice person.

I was pleased with Dr Sowell and have been following his lectures on utube and his links he suggested to watch for information. I enjoyed his mannerism. Straight forward to the point

Dr did not discuss new findings of 2nd reading of MRIs (brain/c-spine) provided, originally done and read at Baptist. Then had 2nd reading at UofL Neuro-radiology, during my visit with Dr Sowell. With very concerning serious matters noted on 1st & 2nd reads. Dr very dismissive of other specialists who treat and see me, at least, on a 2 wks-1 month period; monitoring my medication list and needs. Will share Dr Sowell's disparaging remarks regarding my current providers with them individually and their care plans for me. I was a RN for 37.5 yrs before retired license and after reading Dr Sowell's notes in my chart, I was shocked to find notes In the same that were documented as "normal" but never performed. Such as nose/finger testing, didn't listen to lungs, didn't look in right ear despite me reporting diminished hearing,no rhomberg done, pronation drift etc. I have been in pain management for over 30 yrs but Dr Sowell stated my current neurological symptoms that have started and are quickly becoming worse in the past 2 months; he stated it was all because I take opioids. He asked if I knew what addiction meant. I said, no, I don't, do you? He replied, no. And I'm going to send you to psychiatry regardless of the same. I have worked domestically (in the states) as a nurse; as well, as internationally as a contracting nurse to the Dept of Defense in the Middle East in a war zone. I have been exposed to multiple types of chemicals and other types of warfare agents. It made me worry especially in the reading done at UofL (MRIs) when I see such key words of RT frontal lobe involvement, cortical leptomeningeal susceptibility, gliosis, WM gliosis, focal atrophy, ongoing ischemic changes, focal leptomeningeal neoplasm, etc. Also, I didn't say my anxiety/irritability was through the roof. I was talking about my pain being through the roof 24/7 with no relief from the pain and continually pointed to my RT frontal lobe of my head during examination. Dr Sowell noted on my chart that I had blurred vision. (Which should have been noted of my RT eye, newly noted the past 6-8 weeks), abn fundoscopy, myoclonic jerking, word finding difficultly. However despite all the images, reads and rereads of the same, Dr Sowell stated it was all from opioids even though I have been in pain management for over 30 yrs and received care from civilian as well as military DRs.without these current symptoms. And my Neuro symptomology had really progressed the past 6-8 weeks. To include difficulty in swallowing dense food items and my husband present during those episodes and jumped up from the table to do the heimleich maneuver. I will share with both my pain DR (that I have been with locally for the past 9 yrs) and my psych provider (been with her the same amount of time) of Dr Sowell's disagreeing remarks regarding their care for me. To say I was very discouraged and disappointed in that appointment is a MAJOR understatement. Also, when Dr Sowell needed the lights turned off in the room to use the fundoscopy to check my eyes, he was clearly irritated when my husband turned the lights off because he was sitting right next to the light switch. Dr Sowell had already sat on his roll around stool and positioned himself in front of me and said that he wanted to do "his own stuff, including turning the room light out". My husband said, oh sorry.
